When Rivers Rose…

The rain began in mid January and did not stop.
Within two weeks, parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and southern Mozambique had received almost a yearโ€™s rainfall, leaving rivers swollen and communities cut off.
The Rotary Club of White River (D9400) found itself at the centre of a fast moving crisis as floodwaters swept through low lying areas and access routes disappeared.
Among the worst affected sites was the Kruger National Park, where large sections were closed for the first time in living memory. Roads became impassable, bridges were submerged or washed away and staff in outlying camps were stranded without reliable access to food or clean water.
