One runner. One community. One kitchen upgrade

We kindly ask for sponsorships and donations to support him on this incredible journey. All proceeds raised will be donated to Rest a While Service Centre for the Aged to assist with upgrading their kitchen equipment and to help them continue supporting not only their residents, but also the less fortunate members of the community.
Your support, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference.
About our beneficiary – Rest a While Service Centre for the Aged
At Rest a While, the elderly are cared for in a way that truly makes a difference in their lives. They mainly support SASSA pensioners and members of the less fortunate community who rely on them for daily care and assistance. Even something as simple as a food parcel can go a long way in helping those in need.
Every day, home-cooked meals are lovingly prepared at their facility for residents and community members. Unfortunately, they have not received a government subsidy for the past four years, which has made keeping their doors open an ongoing daily challenge.
Much of their kitchen equipment is outdated and often barely functioning. They dream of upgrading to a new industrial stove, industrial frying pan, food processor, and mixer, which would make meal preparation far more efficient and manageable.
The kitchen currently operates with only two dedicated staff members — one cook and one cook’s assistant; sadly due to limited funding, they are unable to employ additional staff.
About our runners – Terence Baker, and his son Kieran
Terence Baker is a dedicated Johannesburg long-distance runner, husband, and father of two who has been running since 2000. Over more than two decades, he has completed 120+ marathons, including over 40 ultras, and logged more than 20,000 km in training.
A passionate Comrades Marathon runner, Terence has completed 17 Comrades races and earned his Permanent Green Number (42365) in 2012 after ten consecutive finishes. His personal best is 10:29, while one of his proudest achievements was finishing the 2012 race in 11:55 — just four minutes before cut-off.
Running has become a family passion, with his son Kieran completing his first Comrades in 2023. In 2025, father and son achieved a special milestone by running and finishing the race together in 11:44.
On 14 June 2026, Terence and Kieran will once again run the Comrades Marathon together, raising funds for Rest a While Service Centre for the Aged — a cause close to their hearts.
