Rotary International believes that fostering empathy, understanding, and cultural awareness is one of the most effective ways to build bridges between nations and overcome cultural, racial, and religious divides. With this vision in mind, Rotary has been organising international youth exchange programmes for more than sixty years.
The Rotary Youth Exchange programme provides students, parents, and host families with a unique opportunity to broaden their cultural horizons and develop lifelong international friendships. Students are given the chance to live in another country with a host family for either six weeks or a full academic year, experiencing a new culture, language, and way of life firsthand.
For parents, the programme offers their children an unforgettable life experience that encourages personal growth, independence, and global awareness. Host families, in turn, welcome international students into their homes, sharing their culture and traditions while learning from the experiences and perspectives of young people from around the world.
The programme aims to help Southern African teenagers become global citizens, promote personal development, and strengthen international understanding, goodwill, and lasting friendships between nations.
While the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon is not currently directly involved in Rotary’s Youth Exchange programmes, a number of other clubs within the District actively participate in and support these initiatives.
