Adri Visser: From Paralympic Pools to Changing Hearts and Minds

“I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” This verse from Psalm 139:14 is the foundation of Adri Visser’s self-perception, and her life is a beautiful testament to its truth. A six-time African swimming record holder, a beloved radio personality, and a champion for disability rights, Adri’s story is one of unwavering faith and relentless determination.

Casual Day Coordinator for Retailers with NCPD (January 2025), Casual Day Champion, Paralympic swimmer (six African records), Radio presenter (Vaal Stereo 2021-2024), Otto Bock S.A. Prosthetics Brand Ambassador

In “Unwritten Chapters of the Gauteng Province,” Adri shares her journey of overcoming physical challenges to achieve excellence in sport, academia, and media. Born with no hands and one leg, she has proven that disability is simply a different way of navigating the world.

Her swimming career spanned sixteen extraordinary years, earning her six African records and international recognition. But Adri’s impact extends far beyond the pool. Her three years presenting “The Afternoon Drive Show” on Vaal Stereo allowed her to connect with people daily, sharing stories that inspired others to pursue their passions. Her role as Otto Bock S.A. Prosthetics Brand Ambassador allowed her to advocate for others in the disability community while highlighting the importance of quality assistive devices.

Now, as Casual Day Coordinator for Retailers with NCPD (appointed January 2025), Adri is working to create a more inclusive society for all. Casual Day isn’t just a fundraising initiative; it’s a movement toward a more inclusive South Africa where persons with disabilities are recognized for their capabilities and rights.

Adri’s conviction is powerful: “Limitations exist primarily in our minds. With faith, determination, and community support, what seems impossible becomes merely the next challenge to overcome.” Let’s share her inspiring story and support the work of the NCPD.
