Annual Youth Leadership Training Weekend: Our leaders of the future
Imagine the excitement of 72 grade 11 pupils as they disembark from 2 buses at the Kadesh Barnea camp site, in the Magaliesburg mountains, near Hartebeespoort dam. Pupils with leadership potential are selected by Teachers and Headmasters, from 24 different schools in Johannesburg and the East Rand surrounding areas attend a weekend camp for a journey into learning more about themselves, gaining leadership skills and experiencing constructive interaction with learners from other young South Africans.
Having briefly met the week prior to the training camp, participants are arranged into mixed gender teams from varied backgrounds and strong bonds are soon established. Teams are encouraged to develop and establish their own identity and war cry, and as the weekend progresses, the cries become louder and more competitive.
Interspersed with indoor lectures and outdoor activities these pupils are exposed to and mentored into assuming practical roles of leadership that test the individuals abilities to cope, and learn how to cope with a range of activities, interactions and challenging circumstances designed to stimulate personal leadership skills and growth. The club funds this event and looks to the community and business for donations to cover the cost which is budgeted for 2017/2018 at R80, 000
