The Compassionate Friends (TFC) is a non-denominational, self-help, non-profit organisation that is funded largely from donations. The mission of TFC is to offer friendship and understanding to bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents following the loss of a child. Monthly support meetings are held and regular counselling is also available. In addition, there is a separate support group for fathers which is normally conducted online.

The Johannesburg Chapter of TFC is situated at 122 Athol Road, Waverly, Johannesburg. In their recent monthly newsletter, an appeal was made to assist with funding for the repair of the premises front boundary wall. Over the years it became evident that the wall was increasingly and dangerously leaning over towards the road and some nasty cracks had appeared. There was also a problem after rain that water could not run off due to there being no outlets through the wall.
Following an inspection, confirmation was received that part of the wall would need to be demolished, rebuilt and outlets created along the entire wall to allow rain water to run off. The entire wall would then need to be repainted.
The Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon took up the challenge to fund and execute this worthwhile project in support of TCF and the essential support that they provide to the greater community. A contractor was hired and the project satisfactorily completed within a week.
