Knights Pendragon recently donated and installed a new gas stove, complete with gas oven, for the ladies of Bethany Home.
With ready access to municipal gas, gas is the most cost-effective source of cooking energy for the 52 women and their children living at the home. However, with a number of repairs being necessary for the old domestic gas stove, it was discovered that the stove model is obsolete and spare parts are no longer available.
In considering a replacement stove the nature and extent of the daily cooking requirements was investigated, which revealed that a domestic stoves burners are too close together to be suitable for the industrial catering sized pots necessary for cooking the daily meal for 52 persons. As such, cooking the daily meal was a lengthy exercise.
While the cost of an industrial gas stove is substantially more than that of a domestic stove, the make and model chosen is well established in the market and spares are expected to be available for a long time to come. Furthermore industrial gas stoves are designed with wider burner spacing and burner size, suitable for the industrial catering sized pots necessary to cook a daily meal for 52 persons and have seen the cooking time for the evening meal being reduced by half, with a saving of both time and gas.
